I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I'm recommending that you make a trip to Bandra and that too to a pure buffet restaurant (even though I hate buffets). I recommend this Oriental live interactive lavish spread where your choice is steamed and stir-fried, cooked and baked and presented to you. The decor is a thrilling blast from the gaudy past. It's a 7,500sq ft sprawling labour of obvious and obsessive love. Above: a triple height ceiling; to the side: gurgling water bodies and lookalike lotus flowers; and all around: pagodas and well-lit buffet counters. Two gigantic rooms. Almost two hundred dishes. Rs.588 per head. Unlike regular buffets, the menu here never changes. The staggering variety makes that a plus point. You can try them all over several meals and come back to get your favorites. Other than the Japanese sushi and sashimi (which are hugely avoidable) the rest of the fare is definitely above average. Masterly, Shiitake Mushroom and Spring Onion Pancake. Patchy dishes too: the Chin-dian Flaming Sunset Orange, Paneer Stir-frys and some of the desserts are brightly coloured gooks. The décor and the variety of food is flamboyant, thankfully the price points are not.
